The average length of time a CV is initially looked at is 20 or 30 seconds so it must be easy to read, possess perfect English grammar, be free of old school clichés and contain the right key words and active verbs.  It should never be longer than 3 pages.  A CV which falls outside of these criteria is very likely to be rejected.

Not everyone has perfect English and too often a CV is sent out containing mistakes.  Life is busy and time restrictions create the temptation to bolt on the most recent job to the last twenty decades of experience causing salient information to become lost in a sea of hyperbole.  It is also very difficult to be objective about one’s own career – everything you have done matters so how do you effectively disseminate and filter out the less important material to clearly shape, define and convey the most relevant?

By consulting with me initially over your CV I ask you to talk me through your career to date, this enables me to then create an initial draft CV ensuring the right key components leap off the page and achievements are backed up with measurables.  Prior to achieving the final draft document we may have two or three re-workings but the final result will be a two or three page CV which clearly encapsulates your most relevant information in a punchy and engaging way to inform the hiring company or recruiter exactly what skills and experience you can bring.

The length of time it takes for you to receive your professionally written CV does depend on the current status of your existing CV however approximately 2 – 3 working days but some CV’s may take longer.  If you require an urgent CV writing there is a surcharge for CV’s to be produced within 24 or 48 hours.

You may be happily settled in your current job but given our unstable global landscape no job can be guaranteed.  It is therefore advisable to have a CV which is ready to fire off at short notice should you need to react quickly to an evolving situation.  You should maintain your CV as you do your car, give it an MOT every 6-12 months to ensure its content is up to date.  I always highly recommend that a CV is tweaked for each job role it is being applied for – to ensure the experience and knowledge you have is backed up in your CV – if you are in receipt of a job specification and candidate specification then this makes it an easy process.  Failure to attend to this could cost you an opportunity for interview.
